CHRIS BIJOU

Ph.D. candidate, The Ohio State University

Chris is a social demographer within the field of sociology. Her research centers on health disparities, focusing primarily on racial/ethnic and urban differences. Chris' research agenda falls into three interconnected strands of scholarship:

 

  1. Examining how heterogeneity within the Black community relates to intragroup health disparities;

  2. Investigating how social and economic conditions shape women’s health outcomes and how these associations fluctuate over the life course and;

  3. Examining how state and federal policies (or lack thereof) perpetuate existing population health disparities among marginalized racial/ethnic groups;

Through her work, Chris aims to produce policy-relevant research to identify and address the health needs of marginalized populations. She is a Population Reference Bureau Policy Communication fellow and a member of the Ohio Policy Evaluation Network (OPEN)

 

Chris' dissertation investigates how U.S. state-level policies and inequalities influence Black women's health across the life course. Her dissertation committee includes Cynthia Colen (chair), Rin Reczek, and Reanne Frank.
